A Macintosh running at least System 7 (might need later, not sure)
Sound Manager 3.0 or later (available from Apple's web site)
4MB of RAM and about 1.3 MB of hard drive space
Which application do I use?
3-D Cannon(FAT):
FAT applications contain the code for both PowerPC computers and regular 68K computers. This version will work with all computers.
3-D Cannon(FPU):
This application is optimized to work with computers that have FPU's. If you are not sure if your computer has an FPU, just try it out and the application will let you know. PowerPC users should always use the FAT application.
Can it go any faster?
Because of the intense calculations necessary to do 3-D polygon rendering, 3-D Cannon might run pretty slow on some machines. If the game runs too slow try the following:
• Turn texture mapping off under the Options menu (if it's even on)
• Turn Interlacing on under the Options menu. This tells the game to only draw every other line on the screen. The result is faster animation with a slightly less attractive display.
• Switch to a smaller window size under the Window Size menu.
• Turn off any unnecessary extensions. PowerPC users should not turn off all extensions because 3-D Cannon requires shared libraries.
• If you have an FPU, use the FPU version of the game. If you aren't sure, just try it and the application will let you know if it can use it or not.
• Get a faster computer. As graphics and the complexity of games increase, you can expect to find more and more games that require fast processors.
Game instructions
Each player commands their own stationary gun that sits on a mountain.
The goal of 3-D Cannon is simple, blow your opponent away. Games are played either 1 round at a time, 2 out of 3 rounds, 3 out of 5 rounds, etc. depending on the number of rounds you select from under the Options menu.
To play:
• Aim your gun at your opponent. Use the buttons on the left side of the game window (or their keyboard equivalents) to adjust your horizontal and vertical rotation. The weapons cannot move around on the mountain, they are stationary.
• Set your bullet's velocity using the buttons on the left side of the game window (or their keyboard equivalents).
• Fire your weapon by pressing the Fire button
The following diagram indicates what each of the buttons and readouts in the game stand for.
Keyboard shortcuts:
• Rotate gun horizontally (left & right arrow keys)
• Adjust gun elevation (up & down arrow keys)
• Adjust bullet velocity (< & > keys)
• Fire (space bar)
(NOTE: Hold down the Command key while pressing the buttons or keys to speed up rotation or change in velocity.)
Why register?
3-D Cannon has a $10 Shareware fee that can be paid either on-line or by using the registration application located in the same folder as the application. Registration does the following:
• Removes the reminder dialog box that appears every time you load the game
• Makes future EOM game releases more likely because these games take a
significant amount of time and money to make
• Makes you eligible to be a beta-tester of future releases
• Supports my game writing addiction
If you actually play 3-D Cannon and like it, please support the concept of Shareware by registering.
How do I register?
All registrations are handled through Kagi, a business that specializes in processing Shareware registrations. You can register in one of two ways:
1)On-line at: http://order.kagi.com/?1Y
or for a secure session at: http://order.kagi.com/?1Y&S
2)Using the Register program located in the same folder as this ReadMe file.
The Register Application Explained
When you launch the Register program, a window appears asking for all of the necessary information. If you have previously registered a program through Kagi Software your personal information will appear, double check to see that it is right.
• Type your name, postal address, and e-mail address (or "none" if you don't have one) in the corresponding boxes at the top of the window.
Note: If you do not have an e-mail address, you must check the Postcard Receipt box (which automatically adds $1 to your charge) so that we can send you a postcard receipt with your registration code.
• Enter the number of copies that you would like to purchase at $10 each.
Note: If you feel that the program is worth more than the registration fee, you can add an optional bonus in the Bonus US$ box.
• Select your method of payment and fill in any requested data (credit card number, type of currency, etc.). Checks should be made payable to Kagi Shareware and must be in US dollars.
• Double check the program's calculation of your total cost at the bottom right of the window.
• Either Print, Copy, or Save your registration information
Print... will print a hard copy of the registration form so that you can mail it to Kagi Software with your payment to the address shown on the form.
Copy... will put a copy of the registration form in your clipboard for you to paste into an e-mail message to send to Kagi Software. This method only works with credit cards and First Virtual since it is not yet possible to email cash or checks.
Save... will save a copy of the registration form onto your hard drive as a Simple Text document so that you can print it later.
• Double check your registration request to see that all the information is correct, if not, correct it using the Register program. Do not edit the output produced by the Register program. The Kagi email and postal mail addresses are given on the registration form. Save a copy for yourself. We suggest printing it out. Note the author's e-mail address.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgment when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgment.
Final Note:
3-D Cannon has a protection scheme and when you pay, we need to send you a registration code.
If you do not have an email address, enter your complete postal address and please remember, we do not know what country you live in so please enter that into the postal address also. Check the Postcard Receipt box so that Kagi can inform you of your registration code. Kagi transmits the registration codes via email and paid postcard receipt only.
